Es un documental del año 2005 realizado Don Letts, donde distintas figuras del género cuentan, de manera cronológica, su visión y experiencias sobre el punk rock.
Participan entre otros: David Johansen (New York Dolls), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Henry Rollins (Black Flag), Captain Sensible (The Damned), Jim Jarmusch, Mick Jones (The Clash), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees).

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Live In Roseland Ballroom, New York

¿Qué esta web se llama STAY FREE por un tema de Los Clash no hay ni que aclararlo no? Lamentablemente esa grandisima banda se separó demasiado pronto y nos quedamos con ganas de más. Joe Strummer, su cantante y guitarrista, hizo alguna que otra cosa hasta que formó los Mescaleros en 1999,  grupo que podríamos considerar una dignisima continuación de los Clash. Mescaleros también duró demasiado poco, dejó de existir en el 2002, año en que Strummer sufrió un problema cardíaco y falleció. En ese tiempo llegaron a grabar 3 discos: Rock Art and the X-Ray Style en 1999, Global a Go-Go en el 2001 y Streetcore en el 2003, que había terminado de grabarse poco antes de la muerte del cantante.

Este es un show en vivo en la ciudad de New York grabado por HBO para un programa especial sobre la banda. El recital originalmente duraba el doble del tiempo que vemos acá, pero por TV solo pasaron esto. El concierto se llevó a cabo en el 1º año del grupo, por lo que podrán ver varias canciones de los Clash mezcladas en el repertorio.

Explosions In The Sky - 6.11.11 en Barcelona

Mogwai nos dejo a todos con el culo para arriba después de ese tremendo show en La Trastienda de Buenos Aires. No sé que le pasó a ustedes, pero a mi me dejo muy manija y con muchisimas ganas de ver mas bandas de post rock en vivo. Explosions in the sky es una de mis favoritas y sería hermoso tenerlas tocando por este lado del mundo alguna vez. Para los que no los conocen son de Texas y se formaron en el último año de la década del 90. Tienen editados 5 LPs, un ep y una banda sonora, todo este material muy recomendable.

Este video es un show en Teatro "Casino de l'Aliança del Poblenou" de Barcelona el pasado 6 de Noviembre de 2011.

El pibe de Gerli

Y de golpe, así como si nada, pasaron 10 años desde la última vez que nos cruzamos a Ricky haciendo de las suyas por la ciudad. STAY FREE en todos estos años lo tuvo de protagonista varias veces (basta con ir al buscador ahí al costado y poner su nombre para comprobarlo). Esta vez me pareció que la mejor forma de recordarlo era compilando algunas frases suyas aparecidas en diversos reportajes que se publicaron en revistas y diarios.
A eso le sumo lo que armé cuando se cumplieron 4 años de su fallecimiento: un compilado con las que yo consideré sus canciones mas "personales" al cual bautice "El pibe de Gerli". Ahora, aprovechando que los tiempos cambiaron y se puede compartir música sin necesidad de bajar nada, se los dejo en forma de playlist.

Desde aca, un abrazo querido Manuel Ricardo Espinosa, te seguimos recordando, tal como nos pedías.

Este reportaje hecho a Ricky Espinosa data de 1999, estimo, a unos diez años de conocerlo en ese entonces. Lo publicamos en Madhouse. No recuerdo dónde nos cruzamos la primera vez: “Del punk rock”, contesto siempre que me consultan de dónde conozco a la gente. La última oportunidad donde lo ví, tiene que haber sido un show en Vélez, no sé quién tocaba, él salía, yo entraba, no me abrazó, se me arrojó al cuello, le limpié la nariz (siempre lo hacía), habremos cruzados saludos afectuosos de rigor, nos reímos, seguimos de largo. Un par de años más tarde, recién despierta y café en mano abría mails para desayunarme con su muerte, su suicidio. Podría ahora despacharme en ocho mil caracteres sobre la muerte, otros tantos sobre el suicidio pero apelaré a La Polla Records para decir “No Somos Nada”. Porque no lo somos. Ese nihilismo que despedía Espinosa me había inspirado el pretencioso título nietzscheano con el que había corolado la nota. Compartíamos igual pasión por la filosofía como por las heridas, Ricky y yo. Cuando el dolor se vuelve tristeza, la derrota es desmoralizadora. Así fue como no resultó sorpresiva la noticia de su huida de esta vida. Porque huyó, no se rindió, combatió hasta ese último pensamiento suyo de decidir sobre su propia vida, su propia muerte. Esa mañana lo lloré en silencio con el dolor que provoca ese entendimiento de lo nada que somos. En mi recuerdo quedará siempre primero su risa -¡enorme!, ¡fresca!-, esa verborragia suya de disparar palabras sin respirar y su comprensión sobre la vida, las injusticias y la falta de libertad, y sus abrazos. Vaya aquí mi homenaje a quien levantó una única bandera, la del anarquismo, y a quien quise tanto como para conmoverme mientras escribo estas líneas.
